The End’s Not Near, It’s Here

By Johnny, February 23, 2007 12:59 am

The series finale of The OC was on tonight. It was a very good episode. I felt they wrapped up everything very well. Although it was a bit cheesy but that’s expected from a show that targets young adults. This was one of the few series I kept track of from the first episode to the last. It was good to see how the characters progressed. I was completely satisfied with this series and will miss the characters. If you didn’t get to catch the last episode, follow this link before YouTube takes it down!

Finance 2006

By Johnny, January 4, 2007 12:05 am

2006 was certainly a year for me to remember. It was the year I finally became debt free. It was also the year where I learned how to manage my retirement money and began to seriously analyze and save for my future. My goal is to make my first million in 10 years. So far so good.

I am happy to report that my investments from 2006 went up 7.76%. This amount did not include contributions. With contributions, my portfolio rose 11.01%. The first quarter of 2006 I was up 5.74% from previous year’s amount. Second quarter performance sunk my portfolio down to -0.30% when the market sold off. By third quarter, I recovered my losses and was up 2.46%. I began making contributions to my 401K again in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

Based off of Robert Kiyosaki’s “You Can Choose To Be Rich” workbook, I was able to come up with the following analysis of my financial state.

HOW MUCH DO YOU KEEP? I kept 10.6% of my income.
Goal: Increase the percentage of income you keep.

DOES YOUR MONEY WORK FOR YOU? 2.5% of my income is working for me.
Goal: Increase your percentage of passive or portfolio income.

WHAT IS YOUR INCOME AFTER TAX? I pay 35% in taxes.
Goal: Decrease the amount of tax you pay.

HOW MUCH OF YOUR NET INCOME GOES TO HOUSING? 24.7% of my income goes to housing (thanks to coming back home to live with the folks).
Goal: Keep housing costs under 33% of net incoming.

WHAT IS YOUR RETURN ON ASSETS? My cash-on-asset return is 3.67%
Goal: Increase your cash-on-asset return.

HOW WEALTHY ARE YOU? I can live for 9.26 months without worrying about my expenses.
Note: Once your monthly passive income exceeds your monthly expenses, you’re infinitely wealthy because your assets are working for you.
Goal: To purchase assets that generate passive and/or portfolio income in excess of your monthly expenses.

If I was to give myself a grade, it would probably be a B or B-. I think I can do better as far as saving more and improving on these numbers. Let’s see what 2007 will bring.

On a side note, one of my guilty pleasure is being cancelled. Last episode February 22nd. :-(

RIP Marissa Cooper

By Johnny, May 20, 2006 11:17 pm

For the people that I talk to on a day-to-day basis, you would know that the one show that I’ve been secretly keeping up with is The OC. Yes I am a 29-year-old-in-the-closet-OC-fan. Although I did sort of lose interest of it in Season 2 but have been watching it ever since the character Oliver was gone. I just watched the season finale tonight for Season 3 and finally realized they killed off one of their main character, Marissa Cooper, played by Mischa Barton. Like many of the OC fans out there, I did not like Marissa at times. She was always the damsel in distress or the reckless party girl who was on a path of self-destruction. But after watching this episode and realizing that they killed her off, I’m kinda sad because her character grew on me. Yeah it was kinda of lame this season when she went off with yet another guy and initiated a self-destruction phase of her life after her friend Johnny died and finally realized that she messed up in a single episode to come back into the good girl getting set to go to college. I’ve been scouring the discussion boards reading on what people had to say. Most people was actually upset and crying. I assure you I have yet to shed a tear but I am in disbelief. I am in awe and kinda of in denial that she’s dead. Its been awhile since a show has actually given me this kind of a reaction. I’m definitely going to be there for the next season’s premiere. Thank you Fox and Josh Swartz, you’ve sold me on this one.

Zeus and Radiohead

By Johnny, April 13, 2006 9:19 pm

What started out to be a bad day ended up to be fairly decent. Constant complaining from users and endless array of tasks I needed to get done. A blessing in disguise since time flew after the smoke settled. The day ended with me working out with Zeus. Well not actually with him, but I was “overlooking” his work out. I saw him when I went in the gym but just kept to myself. He’s not as muscular as he once was when he was in WWF (now WWE). While leaving the gym the two trainers who was still on duty had Radiohead’s OK Computer playing over the speakers of the gym. Finding Radiohead fans are similar to finding out someone rides. There’s a bit of excitement and then mutual respect. Yup. That’s the excitement for today. End of week is finally here!

Edit: (11:47PM) Just saw last week’s OC episode and guess what was the last song? No other than Radiohead’s Fog (Again). Excellent!
