I recently started following @motogpblog on Twitter and he had announced a contest which we were to reply to him for a chance to win a free download of “Faster“, the movie. Even though I have the movie, I wanted to see if I would ever win anything so random and decided to respond. As a result, I won!
This past Saturday I spent my entire day at the Long Beach Convention Center gawking at motorcycles from various manufacturers. I also bought some custom molded earphones for my listening pleasure. We probably walked the whole show 3 times waiting for the earphones to be completed. Some highlights of the show included getting autographs from MotoGP’s Colin Edwards and AMA Superbike riders Bostrom Brothers and Josh Herrin. I also got to see both MotoGP bikes of Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner. Not to mention 2007 AMA Superstock Champ, Ben Spies’ Suzuki.
To close out the rest of the evening, I spent some time with friends eating at Seafood Village in Monterey Park. The meal was delicious and the company was good. On Sunday, San and I went to volunteer as facilitators of a silent auction. We basically collected the auction sheets once the bidding ends. Nothing to exciting but got to learn a bit on how auction and silent auctions are executed. All-in-all, a very productive weekend.
I’ve become a huge fan of MotoGP. I even attended my first event this year at Laguna Seca. One of my favorite podcast to listen to is MotoGPod. The host, Bob, talks about motorcycle racing and gets very interesting interviews with various people who are involved in the sport. From announcers to a paddock mechanic he gets the most interesting people in the sport. On one of his recent shows, he had a producer talking about the Nicky Hayden movie that was going to air on MTV at 11/16. Since I finally heard it the podcast recently, I thought I’d share the entire movie here. Don’t worry MTV had the movie broken down in 8 minute segments. I really enjoyed it myself.
Our day in the MotoGP and AMA races at Laguna Seca. We went from driving into Monterey, California to the end of the big race.
I’m so exhausted! We spent our whole Sunday July 22nd at Laguna Seca. Visited all the manufacturer’s booth, bought some souvenirs, ate, and watched the championship race. Unfortunately Rossi didn’t win but it was awesome being there in person. I’ll be back again for sure. Most likely on bike.
Marie and San got me an official Valentino Rossi / Yamaha hoody for my birthday. Very sweet of them. I’ll try to post some photos of our trip soon.
For my first major trip of the year, we will be going to watch the Moto GP Round 11 race in Laguna Seca this coming Sunday. Rossi for his first win! We will then drive through the Bay Area to finally reach Beaverton, Oregon. After a couple of days, we’ll be going to Seattle, Washington. We will then go to Vancouver, British Columbia and Victoria Island. We’ll then take a one-way flight back at the end of the trip. This will be my first attempt to blog on the road. Stay tuned for updates!
