Tale of 2 Elvis

October 29th, 2006

We had our 4th Annual Halloween Costume Party last night. This year’s theme was famous or historical dead person. Coming into the party I thought I was going to be the only Elvis Presley. Unfortunately, I was duped again much like what happened at the 2nd year’s party where there were 2 Ryus of Street Fighter. Needless to say we both did not win any awards for our costume.

We had the following characters show up: Lucille Ball, Marie Antoinette, Frida Kahlo, Abe Lincoln, Kurt Cobain, Chivalry, Buddha, Sitting Bull, Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Lady Macbeth, William Wallace (Braveheart), Princess Isabelle (Braveheart), Mercedes Barba, 2 Pacohontas, and of course 2 Elvis.

Contest Winners:

  • Best Female Costume: Frida (Sophorn)
  • Best Male Costume: Buddha (Shon)
  • Most Outrageous Costume: Marie Antoinette (Peuv)
  • What %$#% Costume?: Chivalry (Kim)

Congratulations to Andrew & Belinda

October 22nd, 2006

Fresh off the digital camera, I finally have photos of my buddy’s wedding day. My brief stint as the best man ended a week ago with the ceremony and reception between Andrew and Belinda. Drew made it easy and I was glad I was part of this moment of their lives. Here are some pictures and copy of my potential speech. Luckily I wasn’t required to make one, but I did prepare for it. It’s kinda cheesy and I chickened out on it, but whatever! I was sick. Really I was.

Andrew & Belinda’s Wedding – October 15, 2006

Hi. My name is Johnny Lam and I am the Best Man to Andrew. Andrew told me that I didn’t have to make a speech but I didn’t know if he was joking or not. Good thing I went with my instincts. I mean for those of you who know Andrew, you know it’s hard to really take him seriously at times. The guy is constantly joking and laughing after every sentence. For example, “Hey Johnny, I am going to ask Belinda to marry me. Hehehe.”

I mean how do you believe someone who is chasing Hollywood celebrities as a day job? Or how do you believe someone who tells you that they just won a contest to propose to their girlfriend on national television in New York City? But after I got past his giggling I knew he was very serious about marrying Belinda. And I couldn’t be happier for the both of them. If you don’t believe me, you can ask them who was the guy constantly calling them when they were at New York for the proposal. Dude I was so proud of him!

(Ok seriously), I am truly honored to be part of this joyous occasion. Thank you Andrew and Belinda for letting me participate in this magical moment with you. I am glad that you guys found each other and found the love and companionship you both deserve. And with that, ladies and gentlemen, let us all raise our glass and help me usher in a lifetime of everlasting love as they begin their lives together. Congratulations!

Props To Coach Huynh

October 10th, 2006

We have a local celebrity in my circle of friends.

Guess who made it front page on the Pasadena Star News’ Prep Sports section? None other than Blair High School’s Volleyball Coach, Richard Huynh. Congrats man. It’s good to see someone get props for doing what they love.

Here’s the full story.

Bad Gold

October 5th, 2006

What I thought was a sure thing turned out to be a pretty big mistake. I lost 4.1% of my position in GLD in a matter of 6 days. Talk about volatile. I’m still watching GLD, XLE, and now EWJ which focuses on Japan. It’s looking like Japan might be starting a new trend pretty soon. But I’m going to be a little bit more cautious about this one.

I’m also learning that I have to be constantly monitoring my 401K’s portfolio. Within the past 2 months, my mutual funds have crept up higher and higher and now would be a bad time for me to jump into them since they seem to be overbought. Oh well, lesson learned.
