Won my first Internet Contest

By Johnny, July 26, 2008 4:04 pm

I recently started following @motogpblog on Twitter and he had announced a contest which we were to reply to him for a chance to win a free download of “Faster“, the movie. Even though I have the movie, I wanted to see if I would ever win anything so random and decided to respond. As a result, I won!

End Of An Era

By Johnny, July 3, 2008 10:54 pm

As of July 3rd, 2008, I am without a motorcycle. My beloved Yamaha R6 is now in the hands of a new owner. It was a great ride for the past 5 years and I’m definitely going to miss it. Mark my word that I’ll be back on a motorcycle in the future. Most likely after I own a home or a couple of homes. But for now, it’ll just be me, my car, and my 3 bikes.

Changes in 2008

By Johnny, June 30, 2008 11:00 pm

As I was sitting on the train today I was staring out in darkness and began to reflect what’s been happening in my life the last couple of months. I’m at a completely different phase in my life right now compared to last year. First of all, I’m sitting on a train to work! I’m sure I never thought I’d be doing this a year ago. I’m actually happy that I am doing this to help be more green and not contribute in the demise of our environment.

Last year, I was playing poker on a weekly basis. Now we’re playing once every 3 months as it seems. I miss the face time to BS with the friends and catch up. I got to do that 2 weekends ago when all of our schedules allowed it.

I’m 10lbs lighter than I was a year ago. I’m more active and enjoy running and biking this year. Last year, my bike was sitting in the garage collecting dust. I was coming with all sorts of excuses not to go to the gym. It was not until the blood results that came in on my annual check-up to wake my lazy ass up. I’ve already run 2 5K back-to-back weekends. I will be participating in my first sprint triathlon relay this year and hopefully the LA marathon next year. I’ve added 2 more bicycles to encourage myself to ride them. And ride them, I do. This is one trend I don’t want to forget.

This year we’ve been actively searching for a new home for my family. Unfortunately nothing has turned up and I may have to look for property for myself. I can’t help it when my folks are so picky about all the places we’ve seen. My second offer to potentially the last house of our search has been submitted. It’ll take a miracle for the seller to accept the offer but I guess we’ll see.

I’m in this weird purging phase. My motorcycle is listed on Craigslist still. I’ve had people who were interested inquire about it but no formidable offers that I can entertain. Lots of people want to trade me for another bike and even a boat. That does nothing to someone who doesn’t know how to swim. I’m also playing with the idea of selling my trusty car and get a more fuel efficient Honda Fit. I love the fact that you can carry crap in such a compact vehicle. Maybe after I buy my first property.

I’ve lost interest in gaming from last year. Yes I still play my XBox but it’s still the same game, NBA 2K8. I love that game!

In the work front, things aren’t looking so good. I’ve inherited more applications to handle and it’s starting to stress me out. The overall company politics is making it harder and harder for me to do my job. It’s only a matter of time where grinning and bearing won’t work. Until that time, I can only keep my head up and work through this tough time.

Selling My Beloved R6

I’m finally putting this on Craigslist :-( .

It was a hard decision, but I think the time is right to hang up my motorcycle helmet (for now) and put on my bicycle helmet. I’m making room for a third bicycle in the stable. Damn this bicycle addiction.

Motorcycle Show & Holiday Dinner

By Johnny, December 10, 2007 1:50 am

2007 International Motorcycle Show - December 08, 2007

This past Saturday I spent my entire day at the Long Beach Convention Center gawking at motorcycles from various manufacturers. I also bought some custom molded earphones for my listening pleasure. We probably walked the whole show 3 times waiting for the earphones to be completed. Some highlights of the show included getting autographs from MotoGP’s Colin Edwards and AMA Superbike riders Bostrom Brothers and Josh Herrin. I also got to see both MotoGP bikes of Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner. Not to mention 2007 AMA Superstock Champ, Ben Spies’ Suzuki.

Holiday Dinner With Friends - December 08, 2007

To close out the rest of the evening, I spent some time with friends eating at Seafood Village in Monterey Park. The meal was delicious and the company was good. On Sunday, San and I went to volunteer as facilitators of a silent auction. We basically collected the auction sheets once the bidding ends. Nothing to exciting but got to learn a bit on how auction and silent auctions are executed. All-in-all, a very productive weekend.

The Kentucky Kid on MTV

By Johnny, December 9, 2007 1:09 am

I’ve become a huge fan of MotoGP. I even attended my first event this year at Laguna Seca. One of my favorite podcast to listen to is MotoGPod. The host, Bob, talks about motorcycle racing and gets very interesting interviews with various people who are involved in the sport. From announcers to a paddock mechanic he gets the most interesting people in the sport. On one of his recent shows, he had a producer talking about the Nicky Hayden movie that was going to air on MTV at 11/16. Since I finally heard it the podcast recently, I thought I’d share the entire movie here. Don’t worry MTV had the movie broken down in 8 minute segments. I really enjoyed it myself.

Look Ma! No Leg.

By Johnny, August 14, 2007 10:15 am

Imagine hitting a barrier, severing your right leg, and riding for a mile or so without knowing that the leg was missing. A 54 year-old biker in Japan did just that. He said he felt excruciating pain but kept on riding. His buddy picked up the leg for him. Talk about taking the meaning of hardcore rider to the limit. I’m thinking it might be from the adrenaline from riding that he didn’t noticed the missing limb. Yikes!

16th Annual National Ride To Work Day

16th Annual National Ride To Work Day

If you have a bike, go out there on Wednesday July 18th to support the 16th Annual National Ride To Work Day. This will promote awareness of motorcycles on the road. Plus it’s fun! I’m planning to get out there this coming Wednesday. I did it a couple of years back but didn’t really notice too many bikers but hopefully its different this year.

My Next Bike… Maybe

By Johnny, July 10, 2007 2:58 pm

As our society steer themselves away from being dependent on gasoline, I find myself wondering if there was a 2 wheel alternative than the ever popular hybrid cars on the roads. Apparently there will be a fully electrical motorcycle available for my fancy. The company Bammo Motorsports created the first cool looking electric motorcycle called the Enertia. The bike has similar power to riding a Kawasaki 250 motorcycle but without the noise, feel, and smell of a standard motorcycle. You can drive 40-50 miles between charges and charging takes only 2 hours for a 80% charge and 3 hours for complete charge.

Enertia

Obviously, you would not try to take it out on a major highway. This would be so cool to ride around town locally. A much better alternative than a scooter with their beefy suspension and fat tires. The price ranges from $12-15K and will be available next year.
