Johnny Lam Hello. I am Johnny Lam, the content provider for this web site. As the name implies, this site is my repository of valuable memories.

I have been planning and tinkering with the idea of building a site like this ever since I began blogging on Xanga and hosting my own photo site at home. It was just dumb to have 2 separate sites to tell friends about. So I finally decided to combine both sites into one. So here it is!

So you’re probably wondering, “Who is this stunning looking Asian man?” :-) Let me give you a brief overview of me. I am a Chinese American who immigrated from Vietnam. Although born there, I don’t know a word of Vietnamese (maybe a word but you get the idea). I grew up speaking Cantonese and English. I’ve been a resident of California throughout all except 3 years of my life. I have assimilated to the American culture very well.

I’ve graduated from the University of California at Irvine at 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Computer Science. Funny thing is I didn’t even touch a computer until I got into college. I thought I was going to be an Economist. But with the emergence of the Information Age, it was obvious to me that computers and technology was the path for me.

So far I’ve worked for 4 companies in my post-graduate career. I’ve been through all the ups and downs that one should experience during the volatile time of the Dot-com boom to bust. I’ve worked countless hours on projects at the time seemed meaningful but in the big picture really wasn’t. I’ve burnt myself out giving 101% to a company. I’ve quit a job. I’ve been laid off from a busted dot-com company. I am currently employed by NBC Universal as a Project Manager. I enjoy working in the entertainment field. Funny thing is I am at the exact place I said I wanted to be when I first left my first job out of college.

In my spare time I like to read about financial strategies. I know that one day I will become very wealthy and be able to retire in my 40s. I subscribe to the Dave Ramsey and The Millionaire Next Door approach in financial planning. I’ve explored value investing strategies of Warren Buffet, but I choose to adapt the Trend Following methodology of Dick Fabian. The key to becoming wealthy is to eliminate all debt and save enough to begin investing. It sounds obvious but very difficult for alot of people out there.

I absolutely love riding my motorcycle. I currently ride a 1999 Yamaha R6. It is what you would call a “crotch rocket”. There’s absolutely no other feeling out there like the feelings you get from riding. Other bikers would know what I’m talking about. I try to get in a ride at least once a week. So far my longest ride has been a solo trip to Las Vegas.

I also enjoy travelling and taking excessive amounts of photos. Being away and eating out is definitely a highlight in every trip or just in general. My food preference is very open. I don’t do ginger, cilantro, bitter melons, liver, mint leaves, radish, raw carrots, and raw celeries. So if you have similar taste, look for my restaurants reviews and recommendations.

Being a techie, my writing needs work and I will be the first to admit. So bear with me while I take my journey through my humble life. I look forward to sharing more valuable memories. Remember, these are my memories so go get your own!
