Bachelor Party 1.0

By Johnny, August 28, 2006 6:26 pm

My first attempt in planning a bachelor party went fairly well. Besides the bachelor losing his wallet within the first 30 minutes of arrival, everything else was great. We did some rock climbing, lots of eating, gambling, and of course gentlemen’s club. I ended up being down $400 in gambling. $300 of that was playing poker. :-( Been in a bit of a losing streak lately. Spending time with friends and making new friends is worth the $800 spent on the trip.

Gold Out, International In

By Johnny, August 17, 2006 11:51 pm

Made my move today. Gold fell down to it’s 50 day moving average so I got out at $61.15. A 3% loss for GLD but very minimal damage to my overall portfolio. Looks like XLE is heading south as well. If it reaches its 50 day moving average, I’ll be out as well.

I was just looking over my choice of funds in my 401K and positioned myself in for GIEIX. This fund has been doing very well in the past 2 months since I dropped it from my portfolio nearly 60 days ago. It’s gone up a good 13% since June 14. I might be in it too late, but it looks like the trend is up for this fund so I’m taking a gamble on this one with 33% of my 401K. In any case my stop loss is in place just in case my hunch is wrong.

30th Birthday Celebration

By Johnny, August 7, 2006 11:23 pm

My 30th celebration started with a marathon of a poker game. Received two buy-ins from Greg. Lost it pretty fast. Very hard to play serious when the money was given to you by someone else so I decided to pick up on the balance. After buying in for another $80, I made my come-back. At the end of the night, I walked away being up $60. Of course $40 of that was a gift from Greg. Didn’t get home from the game until 5am. Thanks guys for setting it up and hosting a good poker night!

Johnny's 30th Birthday Poker Night - August 4, 2006

I woke up the same morning at 8am to pack up and get ready for my Idyllwild camping trip. I was done packing by 10am and sat and waited for my ride. Didn’t leave my house until close to 1pm. We reached the camp site close to 3pm and began our feasting. It was a relaxing evening where we sat around the camp fire and just relaxed. The most ideal way of spending my 30th birthday with friends. I turned in at midnight. The tent floor was hard but I was able to fall asleep after having just 3 hours the previous night. I didn’t get up until 8am again. We made breakfast and cleaned up the place. Went into town to sight-see and ended up buying some souvenirs. We departed Idyllwild by 1pm and began our journey to our final destination, Sun City. We unloaded the remaining food in preparation for lunch. Took a long overdue shower and had lunch. I was completely surprised by a birthday cheesecake in my honor.

Johnny's 30th Birthday Camping Trip - August 5-6, 2006

Needless to say, this was the best birthday I’ve ever had. There was so many people who came out and spent some time with me. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. Thanks to all that sent a card (paper and electronic). Thanks for the text messages. And thanks for all the wonderful gifts. Oh the gifts! I was fortunate to receive a Nintendo DS Lite game system, a bunch of gift cards/certificates, a poker set, DS Lite games, and a spring loaded BB gun. More are coming in the mail! :-D

Again, thanks everyone!

Finally 30!

By Johnny, August 3, 2006 12:03 am

That’s right! I am finally 30. Another milestone only time can provide. I’m glad to be alive. To have the friends I have. To go through all the turmoil in life and still stand here (figuratively) and look back and appreciate all that has happened to me. Thanks to all that made a great impression in my life. Looking forward to another 30 years with you all.

No Pictures

This past weekend I was at the Bay Area with the first intention of attending a wedding and hanging out with a couple of friends. The cool weather was very welcoming considering the that Southern California was hot and humid the week before. We spent some time hanging out by the pool on Saturday and attended the reception party. It was a nice wedding. The food was good, the bride was pretty, and everything seemed very organized. We had our typical 10 course meal (although really 9 course since the mango pudding never came :-) ) . The drive home was relaxing and mellow. I didn’t do much driving up but took about 3/4 of the drive back. Unfortunately the ability for photos was lost during a recent migration to another server, but I’ll have my guy help me resolve this issue when he gets back from vacation in Asia. In the mean-time you should be able to view some photos on the bride’s MySpace.

On another note, my ETF positions have been doing good for me. It went over the 1% mark for my entire IRA portfolio. I know that doesn’t seem like alot but considering only 25% of my portfolio is helping me gain that 1% profit. I’m still positioned in since I feel that energy and gold still have a ways to go as far as gaining more profits. As of the end of trading today, both was yielding a 2.8% gain. If either one loses 1/2 I may make that my exit point.
